Anadolu Efes continue their run towards the goal of playing post-season basketball in the EuroLeague, winning 90-88 over Maccabi Tel Aviv and staying in 6th position in the standings.
Unfortunately, according to what was reported by the Turkish broadcaster S Sport, turbulent events took place in the corridors of Arena Riga. The Israeli club’s team manager, Ami Biton, reportedly attacked Luca Banchi while also insulting him. Oded Kattash then tried to separate the two sides.
Apparently, the reason for such argument – then turned into a fight – was linked to Rodrigue Beaubois shooting free throws instead of the injured Rolands Smits in the latest seconds of the game.
Previously, speaking in the post-game flash interviews, Luca Banchi praised the two teams’ effort. “We knew having such a kind opponent in a double-game week was very difficult. They’re playing high-level basketball, they found chemistry and flow, and their offense is extremely productive,” he commented.
“The atmosphere was fantastic, especially for me and Rolands. But all the team was very excited, we celebrated together this very important win for our future,” he said about playing in Latvia.
