Arsenal drew their 11th Premier League game of the season, with a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.
Leandro Trossard put Mikel Arteta’s side ahead in the first half, but Iliman Ndiaye equalised from the spot after Myles Lewis-Skelly didn’t foul Jack Harrison and the Everton man just fell over.
Here’s what the managers, players, pundits and stattos made of the action…
Mikel Arteta on the penalty
“We conceded a penalty that, in my opinion, was not a penalty, very clear. There is not enough contact and the contact starts outside, inside there is nothing.
“I’ve seen it 15 times, there’s no way, in my opinion, that’s a penalty. Because if there is, then O’Brien has to be out and Everton has to play with 10 men, that’s clear. After that again, we dominated the game.”

MLS made a mistake there, but he didn’t make a foul. It was 100% a dive. Again, what’s the point of VAR?

David Moyes on his side’s performance
We did start well but we showed a little bit more in the second half which got us back in the game. It’s been a difficult week with the team top and second in the Premier League and I think we’ve given both a game.

Former Sp*rs defender Michael Dawson on the penalty
“There’s a coming together outside the box, it then goes into the box. Jack Harrison goes down, I think this is awfully soft. Darren England, as I said, has give it, he’s gone to VAR. I mean, if this is given against me, wow, that is soft, mate.
“When you watch it again, honestly, there’s hardly a touch. I mean, that was SOFT!”.

Mikel Arteta on handing minutes to Bukayo Saka, Ben White and others
“Yeah, that’s all good, but we wanted the three points. You want to get everything in the way you plan it.
“We did a lot of good things in the game. We managed to give minutes to a lot of players as well and rest some players, but we dropped two points.

Martin Keown looks for the positive
“That became an exercise in mapping out all the minutes you need for key players for a game that wasn’t taking place today, but will take place on Tuesday evening.
“All credit to Arteta for getting a result and making sure no-one else was going to get injured.”

Arteta and Moyes on Tuesday’s game with Real Madrid
Arteta: “One of the most beautiful games that you can play in football, in the highest European competition against the team that has dominated that competition in the last 20, 25 years. So, yeah, really looking forward to it.”
Moyes: “I think Arsenal are good enough to do it against Real Madrid!”

Leandro Trossard on his goal and the result
“I’m happy with the goal again, it’s always nice to be on the scoresheet and help the team move forward. I think it’s a pity at the end, we wanted to have the three points. In general, we played well, but how we started the second half wasn’t good enough, how we conceded a penalty and what led to their goal.
“You have to put these games to bed, especially when it’s a tough place to come. When you go 1-0 up, it’s all in our favour, then it’s up to us to really turn the game into our own hands. I think that’s what we lacked today.”
