
Disney’s “Snow White” is now banned from being shown in Lebanon due to its inclusion of Gal Gadot, according to Variety. The directive was issued by Lebanon’s Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar at the recommendation of the country’s film and media watchdog. This comes on the heels of a report from Al Jazeera that 71 civilians were killed in Lebanon by Israeli forces since a cease-fire was reached in November.
Beirut-based Middle East distributor Italia Films told Variety that Gadot “has long been on Lebanon’s ‘Israel boycott list’ and that no movie in which she stars has ever been released in the country.” This did include Gadot’s starring role in 2017’s “Wonder Woman.”
Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen in the live-action remake of Snow White, was born in Israel and served in the Israeli Defense Forces in the early 2000s. The actress has been an outspoken advocate for her country in the wake of the October 7 attacks.
Lebanon also banned Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World” in February due to the presence of Israeli actress Shira Haas in the film. Haas plays a former Israeli Black Widow named Ruth Bat-Seraph:
