Glenn sits in shock third
To this point, Glenn’s 2024-25 season has been a breakthrough.
Ahead of nationals, Glenn said her title win a year ago shocked her and that she wasn’t prepared to compete as a champion.
That led to a disappointing 10th-place finish at the World Championships in Montreal.
Throughout the fall, however, Glenn found her footing, to say the least. She went undefeated, taking wins at her Grand Prix competitions in France and China before winning the Grand Prix Final, becoming the first American in more than a decade to achieve the feat.
“I’m starting to get the hang of it a little bit,” says Glenn of the season so far. “I didn’t know how to navigate being the champion. Then, I got my first international win, and then it just kept going.”
But on Thursday, Glenn appeared tentative during her short program. A tight attempt at a triple Axel received a quarter downgrade from the judges. She followed that up by doubling the second jump of a planned triple-triple combination. Glenn’s final jump of the program was a clean triple loop.
Heading into Friday’s free skate, Glenn finds herself nearly five-and-a-half points out of the lead.
Kam and O’Shea lead pairs
In the pairs event, pre-event favourites Ellie Kam and Danny O’Shea lead comfortably, having earned a 77.19 total for their program set to Rain, in Your Black Eyes.
The duo, who are the defending champions, lead Emily Chan and Spencer Howe (69.10) by more than eight points. Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov round out the top three at 69.03.https://www.olympics.com/en/athletes/tennellhttps://www.olympics.com/en/athletes/tennell
