It’s been less than a week since the New England Patriots parted ways with Jerod Mayo. Since then, the stories that have trickled out haven’t painted the coach in a positive light.
There was the story of him playing cards on the flight home after a loss. One centered on him wanting to demote Steve Belichick. Another claimed he took too big of a victory lap after the season-opening win.
Chantel Mayo — MrsMayo51 on social media — took to her Instagram story Friday to respond to the rumors, calling them “fake stories.”
“It never even crossed our minds to tell the truth … But I couldn’t even fathom all the lies we’ve read that are being told to save face,” Chanel Mayo wrote. “What happened to the class???
“We’ve been taking the high road and letting everyone do their thing since Sunday,” she continued. “But playing with someone’s name won’t be tolerated. I bet the fake stories will stop before the real ones start…”
Jerod Mayo’s one-year run as head coach of the Patriots officially came to an end shortly after the team’s season-ending win over the Buffalo Bills.
New England went 4-13 during Mayo’s time at the helm. Much of the criticism during Mayo’s tenure centered on the coach’s lack of experience and struggles with running the team.
Jerod Mayo has yet to speak publicly since he was fired by the team.
Meanwhile, the Patriots are currently conducting a search for their next head coach, with Mike Vrabel and Ben Johnson considered the favorites to land the position.
