A 2024-25 men’s college basketball season that began all the way back in early November will wrap up as it always does — by crowning a national champion on the first Monday of April.
After a thrilling set of national semifinal games Saturday night, No. 1 seeds Houston and Florida will meet at the Alamodome in San Antonio Monday night to close the curtains on the 2025 NCAA Tournament, with the winner earning the honor of lifting the NCAA championship trophy.
Thanks to some customary heroics from All-American guard Walter Clayton Jr., the Gators surged past SEC foe Auburn in the second half in a 79-73 victory in the Final Four on Saturday. A win would make Florida just the 10th Division I men’s basketball program with at least three NCAA Tournament titles.
Coach Kelvin Sampson’s Cougars staged an even more improbable comeback, rallying from a nine-point deficit with 2:10 remaining to stun Cooper Flagg and Duke 70-67. With the victory, Houston is in the NCAA championship game for the first time since 1984, all the way back when Hakeem Olajuwon was the team’s star player.
