After two consecutive DNFs, Lindsey Vonn was back in the points on Sunday (26 January) at the Super G World Cup event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The USA alpine skiing superstar, wearing start bib number 27, produced a solid run on the Kandahar course where she had skied out during Saturday’s downhill. After a strong top section which left her just over half a second behind, she struggled to find the ideal lines on the second half, finishing 1.4 seconds behind eventual winner Lara Gut-Behrami.
With a time of 1:16.31, Vonn placed 13th, one position better than in her first comeback race in St. Moritz, Switzerland, back in December.
The 40-year-old was all smiles after crossing the finish line, waving to the crowd at the German resort where she has won nine World Cup races during her career.
Since her return to competition, the Vancouver 2010 gold medallist recorded her best result two weeks ago with fourth in the St. Anton Super G, but failed to finish the same event in Cortina d’Ampezzo last weekend.
If selected by Team USA, Vonn will race next at the World Championships in Saalbach, Austria, with the women’s Super-G and downhill scheduled for 6 and 8 February, respectively.
