Two-time world champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates claimed their sixth U.S. ice dance crown Saturday at the 2025 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas.
Their total score was 223.52, with Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko earning 210.79 for second. Caroline Green and Michael Parsons were third at 205.37.
What may appear to be an easy win on the scoresheet was far from it, as Chock dealt with a food-related stomach issue throughout the week.
“Well, I think the fight that it took to get through the last two days, it makes it extra special. I knew we could do it, and I wanted to do it,” she said of their win. “I’m just really proud of us. Just onwards and upwards from here.”
Six titles tie 2014 Olympic champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White for the most ice dance wins at the U.S. Championships.
Bates said that matching Davis and White’s record held special significance for them.
“They were the ones who showed us what it takes to become the best team in the world, how hard they trained on the ice, how dedicated they were off the ice, how graceful they were. Whether they won or lost, every time they were so classy,” he said. “I think it’s hard not to understand the gravity of like, ‘Yeah, we won our sixth one today,’ and it’s incredible to tie their record.”
At the Worlds in March, set for Boston, they’ll be seeking their third consecutive global win—a feat that hasn’t been accomplished in nearly three decades.
Russia’s Oksana Grishuk and Evgeni Platov were the last couple to win three world ice dance titles in a row, with their run of four titles from 1994 to 1997.
No U.S. ice dance team has ever claimed three World crowns.
Following the competition, U.S. Figure Skating announced that all three medal-winning teams had been named to the squad for the Worlds.
